Riddle & Roam: An Escape Room Alternative for Mystery Lovers

If you love solving clues and getting pulled into a good mystery, you may have wondered what else is out there beyond the usual puzzle experiences. Riddle & Roam is an escape room alternative that takes the mystery into real locations, where you follow a story from one stop to the next.

You will still spend time looking for clues and figuring out what they mean. The difference comes from where the experience takes you and how much of the outing becomes part of the story.

What Makes Riddle & Roam an Escape Room Alternative?

A Riddle & Roam mystery begins when the Society gives you a case. From there, you follow the investigation through a series of real-world locations.

At each stop, another part of the story is revealed. You will receive a password riddle that sends you looking for something within the location. The answer might be connected to a piece of artwork, a word, a symbol, or another detail in the space.

When you find the password, you use it to unlock the next part of your mystery. Then you find out where you are headed next.

Since the experience is self-guided, you decide how long to spend at each stop. You can talk through a clue over dinner, order a cocktail while you read the next Society record, or spend a little more time exploring before you move on.

Is Riddle & Roam Like a Scavenger Hunt?

There are moments when you will need to search your surroundings, so people who enjoy scavenger hunts will recognize that feeling of spotting something everyone else has missed.

In Riddle & Roam, those discoveries belong to an ongoing mystery. You are looking for a specific detail because the Society has given you a reason to find it. Solving that clue gives you information you need to continue the case.

As you move through the locations, you learn more about what happened and why you were brought into the investigation.

Can Food and Drinks Be Part of the Mystery?

Yes. Many Riddle & Roam experiences include locations where you can stop for food or drinks while you work through the case.

The Society may even have a few suggestions waiting for you. Your dossier can include Preferred Provisions or notes about something worth trying at a particular stop.

This gives you time to enjoy the outing while the mystery is going on around you. If your group wants to stay for another round or finish dinner before opening the next part of the story, you can.

Who Would Enjoy This Kind of Mystery Experience?

Riddle & Roam is a good fit for people who already enjoy puzzles, mysteries, escape rooms, scavenger hunts, and interactive experiences. It also works well when you are planning a date or getting together with friends and want something to do while you are out.

You do not need to be an experienced puzzle solver. Most groups end up having different people notice different things anyway. Someone catches the wording in a clue. Someone else notices an object across the room. Then there is usually one person who has been confidently wrong for the last fifteen minutes. It happens.

Try a Different Kind of Mystery

Every Riddle & Roam case gives you a mystery to solve, places to explore, and a trail of passwords that leads you deeper into the Society.

By the time you reach your final location, you will have followed the case from its first clue to its resolution. If it is your first Riddle & Roam adventure, completing the mystery also marks your initiation into the Society.

If you have been searching for an escape room alternative that you can make part of an evening or day out, your first case is waiting.
